BLE Connection Between Phone App and Device Keeps Dropping: How I Debug and Fix It
Bluetooth Low Energy issues usually get blamed on the app or the firmware alone. How I find the real cause and make connections stable.
The problem clients bring: "Our app connects to the device, then randomly disconnects, especially on certain Android phones. The app team blames firmware and the firmware team blames the app."
What is really going wrong
- Connection parameters the phone does not accept, so it renegotiates or drops the link.
- Too much data pushed too fast, overflowing buffers on one side.
- Pairing and bonding not handled consistently between iOS and Android.
- Weak antenna design or enclosure detuning that only shows at a distance.
How I solve it
- Capture the actual radio traffic with a BLE sniffer, so both teams see the same facts.
- Fix connection parameters, MTU size and flow control for real phones, not just one test device.
- Make pairing, bonding and reconnection behave the same on iOS and Android.
- Give the app team a clear protocol document for the GATT services.
- Check range in the real enclosure and flag antenna issues early.
What the client gets
A stable connection across the phones their customers use, and an end to the blame game between app and firmware teams.
