Get Your Schematic Reviewed Before the First PCB Order: What I Check and Why It Saves Weeks
Most board respins come from mistakes a firmware-minded review would have caught. What I check before you order PCBs.
The problem clients bring: "Our first boards came back and we needed bodge wires to make anything work. We cannot afford another respin."
What is really going wrong
- Pins assigned to functions the chip cannot route to that pin.
- Boot strap pins pulled the wrong way.
- No way to program or debug the board once it is assembled.
- Power sequencing or decoupling that does not meet the datasheet.
How I solve it
- Check every pin assignment against the chip's datasheet and the firmware plan.
- Verify boot, reset and programming paths.
- Review power, clocks and decoupling against reference designs.
- Add test points and debug access that will save time during bring-up.
- Deliver a pin map and a written list of findings ranked by risk.
What the client gets
Fewer respins and a board that firmware can be brought up on quickly, for the cost of a short review before the order.
